NAC 08: 1, 2 Kings
Few biblical books are as neglected by the church as 1 and 2 Kings. There
are several reasons for this situation. First, some preachers find it difficult
to construct sermons from Old Testament texts. Also, misconceptions about Old
Testament history exist, such as its supposedly boring and has a nontheological
nature. This causes laypersons to question the books' value for devotional
readings. Also commentaries on these books often explain chronological and
compositional matters without exploring the book's theological and literary
richness. These barriers are overcome with this commentary on the books of
Kings by Paul R. House.'The strength of the New American Commentary is
that it genuinely focuses on what the text says. This does not mean that the
authors are out of touch with the vast array of secondary literature; rather it
means they are committed to putting first things first. Pastors and Bible
teachers will be grateful for this resource for years to come.' - D.A.
Carson'This commentary represents a significant contribution to the
study of 1 and 2 Kings. House offers the reader a fresh and remarkably
insightful exegesis of these often neglected books. His work is lucid and
balanced, and his grasp of human nature is astute.' - David A.
